WHEN THERE IS NO FINISH LINE, ONE MAN DECIDES WHERE IT LIES. MARK “MAYHEM” DOWDLE, THE SOUL TAKER.

THE LAST SOUL.
The Backyard Bully, the Bandana Bandit, the Badman himself Mark Dowdle cashed out all the coins as he picked apart the competition taking soul after soul, lap after lap, day after day. Mr Mayhem pulled up to The Last Soul Ultra in Germany, the most captured backyard ultra the running world has ever seen. The setup: line up to run one lap (4.17miles/6.7km) every hour, on the hour until there’s one lone soul standing at the end. After a recent win in the Go One More (G1M) backyard ultra, Mark was looking to bring the same fate to Kim Gottwald’s edition. The same fate? Not quite. There’s levels to this game, and the PR he ran at G1M (73 loops) got smoked like the cigarette ashed on his tongue, with a performance so incredible, the man running in circles is now the most talked about name in the running scene.
Mark Dowdle, the Last Soul ran 95 loops, 637.1km, 395.87 miles in over 5 days of running.
That deserves a line of its own. Flights all delayed, the movements stalled, but bros motion couldn’t be stopped as he rolled in kitted in the private jet 15 minutes before the start of the race. An American with a beard and headband swapping the US of A for European soil has the streets reminiscing of a centre-half moving crazy in a land far from home. Call him Alexi Lalas because this legend has an aesthetic no runner can emulate, when Dowdle plugs his ears with the wires you know there’s heat getting written on the track. Kim invited the backyard Avengers but it’s clear who’s the real Captain America, call him the Mount Rushmore of Mayhem, Mark Dowdle is officially the Last Soul Standing.

HOW TO BRING MAYHEM TO A BACKYARD.
How do you pace a race that has no finish line? The reason why the backyard race format is so unique is because it’s not about the pacing or the speed, it’s all about the mind. Mark said the first 24 hours of the race is about rewiring the brain to understand what is actually happening. Deep that. 24 hours = 100 miles so that’s 100 miles of just settling into the run. The mind games are different, this reaches far beyond the levels of Jamie Vardy, shithousery and manipulation feels worldly different when your multiple days into a run. You can literally watch the whole journey because whilst he was wiping the floor with his competition he was mopping up views posting REELS throughout the loops. He’s not one to fly under the radar, louder than anything, you can hear him every step chewing up the ground he runs on as you see his headtorch getting brighter and brighter. This was as fierce as competition gets.
With 2 souls remaining it was about Mark vs Ello. The contrast of the loud and crazy vs the head down and dial in. An experiment to understand which is stronger than the mind, is it distraction or manipulation. The final night got dark but the two still shined bright as they trekked it round and round, a mutual respect that ignited the competition more than any livestream could’ve captured, Mark pulled out the mind games and at loop 95 it was over.
This was pure entertainment and word to Mark Dowdle, the demons have awakened. The Last Soul Ultra has a champion and it’s time to call this one the Mayhem Series.
NOTHING LEFT UNCLAIMED.
