The most transformative brand the running world has ever seen, UVU to the running world has been moving like MVP AI braided in Philadelphia, talking about practice, not a game, not a game, talking about PRACTICE. The UVU practice is driven by the philosophy to improve, but the brand goes so much deeper. The clothing collections are a galvanisation of a global audience, building a community that doesn’t just wear a running vest to feel good but because it means something when they put it on. Drip Harder in this Met Gala because running in a piece that’s one of wun makes you feel like you on one tonight - UVU are gunna be at to the top and if I was you, I’d be following them the whole way, it’s drip or drown and I wouldn’t let yourself drown. Congratulations are in order because opening your first flagship store is a callout to the big hitters in the running sector, your traditional big brands are now checking their backs because UVU have blown out the candles and welcomed themselves to the party. But of course, the London-based brand have done it different. HYPEBAST met up with Adi Gillespie (founder) back in 2023 to have a chat about the visual identity of the brand, to which Adi claimed UVU suits many international markets saying, if a newcomer came to the brand, it’s hard to pinpoint exactly where the roots are from. This goes against the traditional, but my man is a revolutionary, comparing it to the sport, “running is still just running – whichever corner of the world you’re in.” Here we are, 3 years down the line and we welcome the pioneering UVU flagship store in the heart of Seoul. Welcome to the Korea Arc.
THE SEOUL REASON.
Now this is a training arc we don’t see all too often, we’ve touched on the running lifestyle in Japan but UVU have gone across the pond and turned this Manga into a Manhwa, Adi Gillespie on his Sung Jinwoo wave and this is the start of his own solo levelling. Touched down in Korea bringing the UK steez on their own grand designs, you can’t tell me this store doesn’t ooze aura and the serious work BTS really made their K-POP. The vibe matches the ethos: minimal, concrete, and an accentuation of beautiful design. The power of your words is so special, and UVU have had the mission statement declared early, telling HYPEBEAST they’re about to deepen the international roots to “every corner [they] can fit in”. Since the conversation, the brand went on a serious journey, a pilgrimage, spawning pop-up shops in the heat of some of the most graceful cities around. Starting at home with London and into NYC, followed by Berlin and then into Seoul, next came the windy city of Chicago, before the penultimate stop on the journey at Tokyo marathon, leading us to the present day with the coldest flagship in running. The cleanest in the game, the pure white aesthetic dropping in Korea from London, it’s the reverse Son Heung Min effect and this Topspur is imprinting their 5-star weakfoot on the Korean running game. THE FUTURE OF THE PURSUIT.
The pursuit is a chase we really don’t see no end to. Where does this go from here? Are we witnessing the birth of a historical moment? The Korean running culture is on the rise, where they use the sport to symbolise freedom, but the idea of freedom has to fit in shared spaces - the sport is reflecting the country’s culture and are UVU going to pioneer the K-running scene onto the world stage? They also recently launched ‘BEAUTIFUL SUFFERING’, a performance training collection that magnifies the tranquillity of strength, endurance, and power in Georgian wrestling training. They say Dagestan and forget, but the brand really on their Khabib game: tactical gas, refined chaos and taking no L’s, UVU will soon have their name carved in the Hall of Fame. A shoutout has to go to Andres Sanjuan, with a tek behind the camera no body can match, this man with a cam in hand moves like prime Brazil in ‘02 with a colour grade so perfect you can’t take your eyes off the flair.
